The two kinds of show money
Type 1: Airport funds. The cash + cards you physically carry, shown to Philippine immigration (or destination immigration) IF asked. Relevant for visa-free trips: Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, HK, and friends. It answers one question: kaya mo bang pondohan ang trip na 'to?
Type 2: Visa-application bank balance. The funds documented via bank certificate for a visa application — Japan, Korea, Schengen, Australia. It answers a different question: may buhay ka bang babalikan, may stable finances ba?
Different purpose, different amounts, different evidence. Kapag pinaghalo mo, either kulang ka o sobra-sobra.
Realistic amounts: airport funds (visa-free trips)
Vietnam and Malaysia: ₱15k–25k · Thailand: ₱20k–35k · Taiwan and Hong Kong: ₱25k–40k · Singapore: ₱30k–50k (SG is pricey, bring a card). These scale with trip length; they're guides, not laws.
The mix matters: cash + a credit/debit card + a bank certificate reads far better than a fat wad of cash alone, kasi ang tanong ay 'may pondo ka ba,' hindi 'may dala ka bang cash.'
Realistic amounts: visa applications
Japan: ₱50k–100k balance is the usual benchmark · Korea: ₱100k+ · Schengen: ₱150k+ for a two-week trip · Australia: ₱100k+ with strong ties evidence · US: no fixed amount at all — ties matter more than balance.
The pattern officers actually look for: history over headline. A steady ₱60k that's been there for months beats a ₱150k na dineposito last week. Sudden large deposits invite exactly the questions you don't want.
Seasoning: bakit delikado ang paglilipat-lipat ng pera
